Arte & Movement Exhibition 2023

Arte & Movement is an exhibition of HRM based artists whose work celebrates dance, movement or music from around the world. The exhibition will take place during the Halifax Salsa and Bachata Festival and give under-represented artists an opportunity to exhibit their work at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia

The inclusion of the Arte & Movement exhibition at this year's festival was made possible by the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia  and Art Pays Me.

Eligibility & Requirements 

  • All artists are welcome to apply, but not every submission will be accepted into the show. Space is limited and priority will be given to artists who self-identify as Indigenous, Black or Racialized.
  • There is no entry fee to apply.
  • Artists can submit a maximum of 3 visual art pieces.
  • Work should arrive ready to be hung and or framed. Some exceptions can be made for three-dimensional and digital pieces but preference will be given to two-dimensional work that can be displayed on an art easel.
  • Artists must be available to deliver and pick up their own work on the installation and uninstallation dates listed below.
  • Artists are welcome and encouraged to list their artwork for sale during the show, but must coordinate the sale of their work independently.

Art drop off: 4pm
Art installation: 4:30-6:30pm

Friday, August 11th
Opening Reception and show day 1: 7:30-11:30pm

Saturday, August 12th
Show day 2: 10am-3pm
Art pick up: 3-5pm 

    How to Apply

    To apply, please send images of your submission to Duane@artpaysme.com and cc aaldclimited@gmail.com by midnight on Friday July 30th, with the subject line “Arte & Movement submission 2023”. Please attach .jpegs of your work, along with the following information in the body of the e-mail: 

    • Your name
    • Do you self-identify as Indigenous, Black or Racialized
    • Your contact information, to be shared with the show coordinators
    • Your contact information, to be shared during the show for the purpose of sale (An e-mail, website, social media handle, etc.)
    • Number of pieces being submitted 
    • Title of each piece (Note: The file names of your .jpegs must correspond to the title of the work) 
    • Medium 
    • Date 
    • Price of each piece (if applicable)
    • Please use this naming convention for your images: “TITLE-ARTISTNAME-SUBMISSION#”
